Alternative and TDM Mobility Modes
Education | On-Demand Course
Level: Foundational/basic course.
About the course: This foundation level self-paced reading activity includes eight articles which highlight the history of TDM and how that evolved into transportation management and new technology-based mobility modes and how to access the grants to assist with funding. This course has no prerequisites and is an insightful article-based course. America has an estimated two billion parking spots for approximately 282 million registered vehicles, which translates to roughly seven parking spots for each registered vehicle. Review how various sustainability goals have been met for universities and major cities, in turn revitalizing urban efforts.
In this course, learn how to:
-
Recognize how transportation demand management (TDM) and alternative mobility modes have become a critical element in overall parking management from municipalities to universities.
-
Illustrate how the conversion of spaces once dominated by vehicular traffic and parking have been transformed into green areas and zones conducive to alternative modes of transportation improving air quality and relieving traffic congestion for urban dwellers.
- Demonstrate the value of data to better scale mobility needs and urban development sustainability solutions reducing the search for parking, and the carbon emissions output, creating SMART solutions.
- Examine how various bike programs across municipalities, corporations, and universities meet goals of reduction in greenhouse gas emissions through commuting and transportation alternative options.
