About the course: In this reading-based course the reader will learn about 21st Century parking and the significant changes that are on the horizon. Recognize how the future of parking can potentially impact sustainability initiatives and mobility choices. Learn how Parksmart connects to green building strategies. Examine how Stanford, Arizona State University, the Cincinnati Zoo, Emory University, and a Class A office building in San Francisco, Ca implemented cutting edge sustainability initiatives. Read about natural ecosystems and how urban environments interrupt them. Examine the long-and short- term consequences and how design concepts can benefit the political, environmental, and economic conditions created by stormwater.

In this course, learn how to:

  • Recognize how parking operations affect the future of the car, buildings, and transportation options.
  • Describe through case studies how parking industry leaders promote sustainable parking planning, design, construction, management, and technology.
  • Explain how parking operations affect water resources.
  • Recognize the importance of stormwater management and regular maintenance of parking surfaces.
